The thought of modernity reflects the characteristics of modern society, and the classical social theory is a knowledge response to the problem of modernity. Tönnies reveals the characteristics of traditional society and modern society through the description of the two ideal types of community and society. The kernel of his modernity thoughts is his specific explanation of the changes in social relations and the combination mode of social members during the transformation of human life from community to society. This article discusses the background of the time when Tönnies's modernity thoughts was put forward, and further explained Tönnies's insights on the diagnosis and treatment of modernity.
