Abstract

Imbalance and insufficiency are the main problems facing China's economic development at this stage, and narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas is a prerequisite and guarantee for promoting coordinated urban and rural development. This paper analyses the impact of digital economy and industrial structure upgrading on urban-rural income gap through theoretical and empirical analysis based on provincial panel data from 2013 to 2020 in China. The results show that the development of digital economy and urban-rural income gap have an inverted U-shaped relationship, first expanding and then narrowing, and industrial structure upgrading will reduce the urban-rural income gap to a certain extent. On this basis, the construction of new digital infrastructure should be accelerated, local governments should formulate appropriate development policies according to the actual situation, promote the flow of urban-rural factors, and strengthen the research and development of digital technology and its application in industrial fields.
