Gout is a crystal-associated arthropathy caused by monosodium urate (MSU) deposition, and gouty nephropathy is a chronic renal injury disease that occurs as a result of prolonged hyperuricemia leading to the deposition of uric acid and urate in the renal tubular mesenchyme as well as renal vascular lesions. Chinese medicine categorizes gout within the scope of paralysis or calendar joint disease from the etiology and clinical manifestations.
