Abstract

Qatar is a country with a diverse linguistic life and cultural background, and is an important partner in China's Belt and Road Initiative. After independence, Qatar aspired to establish its own nation-state, with a strong emphasis on the role of Arabic language and cultural traditions in the construction of national identity; however, due to the impact of colonialism, globalisation, and the influx of expatriates, the English language was considered the gateway to higher education within and outside of the country, and access to modern science and technology. In the context of the strengthening of country and regional studies in the country, it is necessary to explore the linguistic situation in Qatar and the planning of language policies.
