Abstract

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic non-specific intestinal inflammatory disease characterized by continuous and diffuse inflammatory changes in colorectal mucosa, whose etiology is not very clear. Its lesions are mainly limited to the large intestinal mucosa and the lower layer of the mucosa. Western medicine still has no specific drugs to cure the disease. Although aminosalicylic acid, glucocorticoids or immunosuppressants have a certain effect on the disease, they have been taken for a long time and have great adverse reactions. By summarizing the relevant literature on the treatment of ulcerative colitis by Traditional chinese medicine (TCM) in recent years, it is found that the internal treatment and external treatment of TCM have their unique advantages in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Among them, as one of the external treatment methods of Chinese medicine, acupoint catgut embedding therapy has a lasting effect, small adverse reactions, low treatment cost, and is not easy to relapse.
