Abstract

With the ever-changing world situation, the "Belt and Road" initiative(BRI) proposed by China is considered as a profound and meaningful strategy. It is essential for China's long-term prosperity and stable development. Starting from a brief introduction into the background of the launch of the BRI, this paper aims at finding out the fundamental reason that the United States opposes the "Belt and Road" initiative. It shows that BRI has been regarded by the US as China’s new geopolitical strategy aimed at extending its sphere of influence, fostering new norms of international economic cooperation, and promoting a new world order. In order to dispel the US’s doubts, this paper recommends that Chinese should in turn be responsive to American concerns about BRI, which are shared by many in Europe, India, Australia, and beyond. Therefore, as the largest two economic powers, China and the US should push forward the development of China-US ties through cooperation. China should be also open to the US participating in BRI. By working together, the BRI can achieve win-win results for all. Meanwhile, China should reverse the inherent concept of the United States and realize the "Belt and Road" initiative between the two countries benevolent interaction and cooperation under the framework of BRI.
