Abstract

This dissertation touches upon the relevance of the concept of Chinese Ecological Civilisation as a guiding principle for recent transformations in key fields of socio-economic and environmental governance in the People’s Republic of China. Based on a range of academic literatures and current sources on Chinese policies in the respective areas of governance, it is argued that Chinese Ecological Civilisation has been integral to understanding directions of policy change in the context of the ongoing re-evaluation of goals and priorities of China’s societal development in the contemporary era. The results of the study indicate that the discourse of Chinese Ecological Civilisation may have been implemented both explicitly and implicitly by Chinese policymakers, as demonstrated by a range of policies and regulations pointing toward this inference. In so doing, analysing the applications of the tenets of Chinese Ecological Civilisation to specific policy directions may be considered fruitful in the context of their further analysis.
