Abstract

The “Taihang eight defiles” have been documented for a thousand years and have been the main route for trade and cultural exchange in the Jin-Hebei-Yu region due to their dangerous and crucial geographical location. “Taihang eight defiles” have been studied in modern times for over thirty years, but it was not until the early twenty-first century that they received the attention of various academic teams, with subsequent research teams opening up new directions in historical geography and historical and cultural studies. However, However, compared with the more mature research on ancient roads at home and abroad, the research results on the “Taihang eight defiles” still need to be expanded and deepened.
