Ophthalmic diseases evidently affect people’s daily lives. Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is an acute optic neuropathy and has a complex etiology and pathogenesis. NAION causes acute ischemia and structural and functional disorders of the optic nerve resulting from insufficient perfusion of the short posterior ciliary artery. NAION may cause irreversible vision loss, visual field defects, and even blindness if it is not treated early. There is no definite and standard treatment plan for NAION. To treat NAION more effectively, herein, we reviewed the clinical treatment of NAION in recent years and the latest treatment research progress, which will provide a systematic guidance for the treatment of NAION.
