By using the methods of documentation, logical analysis, induction and summary, this paper studies the works and speeches of John Ma and the literature on John Ma's sports thought. It is concluded that John Ma is one of the representatives who first came into contact with western modern sports, and the physical education curriculum in Chinese universities was greatly influenced by his thoughts, which had a positive impact on the development of sports in universities and even the whole country at that time in different periods of his life. Up to now, John Ma's physical education thought still has important reference value for the development of college physical education curriculum in China.
