Abstract

Obama's friend reverend Wright was photographed with racist remarks that were extremely hostile to whites during his sermon, which shocked the United States and caused Obama's election situation to lag behind. As a result, Obama made this speech to address the situation. The transitivity system under Halliday's systemic functional grammar is used to analyze Obama's A More Perfect Union in order to explore the effectiveness and maneuverability of the transitivity system in achieving the purpose of the speech.
