Teacher Professionalism in Higher Education: An Analysis of Multiple Identities Based on the UK Professional Standards Framework

Abstract

This article discusses several important professional roles of higher education teachers based on the Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education 2023, including designer, instructor, supporter, supervisor, and learner. Moreover, it explores the challenges that university teachers may encounter in performing these roles, such as how to enhance self-efficacy, how to analyse the behaviour of students, how to make use of students’ assessments of the course, and so on.
