Abstract

Multi-modal discourse analysis is one of the hot topics in contemporary linguistic research. Based on systemic functional linguistics, visual grammar, and the complementary theory of conceptual inter symbol, this paper makes case study and statistical analysis of the images in new senior high school English textbooks published by People's Education Press, explores the multi-modal features of the textbooks and puts forward some suggestions on how to make use of the multi-modal features of the textbooks to promote modern English teaching.
