Academic English Course Design for Non-English Major Undergraduates Based on Needs Analysis

Abstract

This paper probes into the feasibility of setting up EAP courses (English for Academic Purpose) for non-English majors in Harbin Engineering University. This study adopts the need analysis model of Hutchinson and Waters, and uses the research methods of questionnaire survey and interview. The research results show that students have strong desire to be offered English course for Academic Purposes, but their current level is not sufficient to cope with academic tasks, and they need systematic training the academic English skills.
