In recent years, with the rapid development of educational informatization and the continuous deepening of the application of information technology in the field of education, there have been significant changes in English learning methods. Traditional teaching models can no longer meet the needs of students’ autonomous learning and communication. Based on information technology, this paper used big data technology and network technology to gather ingredients, store and process information in the process of English teaching, and used the Internet and mobile communication equipment and other technical means to achieve interactive communication between English classroom teaching and students’ learning, so as to explore the new type teaching model in the era of rapid information take-off and cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability and innovation ability. Through the analysis and summary of the traditional English teaching methods and the teaching effect after the reform in the big data era, it proved that the English teaching reform in the big data era was effective and feasible. In this teaching mode, students could not only improve learning efficiency and effectiveness, but also cultivate their good language proficiency. This improved the quality of college English teaching by about 12.63%. It provided a good new teaching idea to promote the development of college English. In the age of data, the traditional teaching methods of college English teaching were changed by using new technology. On the premise of ensuring the teaching quality, could enable students to complete knowledge accumulation and ability improvement faster and better, effectively accelerate the classroom speed of English course teaching, and also help stimulate college students’ learning interest and initiative.
