A Bibliometric Analysis of International and Chinese Studies on College English Teaching in the Past Twenty Years (2003-2022)

Abstract

College English courses are essential for college students in and outside China. Utilizing a bibliometric approach, this study examines international and Chinese researches on College English teaching over the past two decades (2003-2022) and analyses the current status and trends of scholarly research to provide insight into how research in this field can complement one another. It is found that empirical research approaches, which are frequently adopted internationally and use data from actual classroom instruction may be helpful for Chinese studies to demonstrate model validity while the emphasis on teaching models and critical thinking as well as value judgement in Chinese studies may provide logic clues for international studies in balancing micro-observation and macro-construction in teaching college English.
