Abstract

Under the STS perspective, the thesis explores the cultural, regional and personal attributes of Chinese-made synthesizers ascribed by their designers and makers in various phases, the natural, social and transformative properties of the synthesizer's output sounds, and the changing conception of "synthesizer" as a cultural symbol in the Chinese ideology.
