Abstract

This paper utilizes the foundational framework of "Schema Theory" to delve into the schematic cognition within Gerhard Richter's paintings. By synthesizing the artist's life experiences, autobiographical writings, essays, and the visual representations of his contemporaneous works, the study uncovers the latent "schematic" threads within the artist's oeuvre. It scrutinizes the implicit expression of internal sensations throughout the transition from "sensory intuition" to "intellectual schema" and ultimately to "image visualization," clarifying the obscured connections between layers. The paper seeks to apply Schema Theory concretely within the realm of art studies, addressing the extensive analytical challenges of artwork interpretation and offering a multidimensional analytical perspective on the creative mechanisms of Schema Theory in aesthetic cognition, particularly within the non-realist domain.
