Abstract

This paper investigates the impact of the scale and quality of secondary vocational education on the income of the middle and lower class in China, represented by rural residents, and the future career prospects of their children, using a double fixed effects multiple linear regression model on panel data from 31 provinces in China from 2008 to 2019, and further conducts a regional heterogeneity analysis. The results of the analysis will be used to make policy recommendations for the development of secondary vocational education after the implementation of the "double reduction" policy. The research results show that China's secondary vocational education is generally underdeveloped, can neither provide students with the same development prospects as ordinary high school education, nor become the main means of raising income for the middle and lower classes, especially rural residents. The research results provide a basis for further research on how to improve the quality of secondary vocational education under the background of "double reduction" policy, and also provide an empirical basis for the subsequent adjustment of relevant policies and measures.
