A Case Study on the Effect of Napping on Verbal Memory of High School Students in Foshan, China

Abstract

Memory is known to be related to sleep, and napping has been proven to have all sorts of long-term benefits. However, the exact impact of naps on short-term memory still remains unclear. We accessed the memory level through a test based on English words and their corresponding Chinese meaning in a high school in southern China. Then, we compared the performance of the participants who were randomized to either nap or no nap groups. The results suggested that the performance of napping groups may not have significant differences in statistics, compared to the no-nap groups, which means that napping might not affect verbal memory to a great extent.
