Abstract

With the acceleration of globalization and the arrival of the information society, cross-cultural communication has become increasingly important worldwide, particularly in higher education. College English, as a key course for cultivating students’ cross-cultural communication abilities, faces unprecedented challenges. Traditional English teaching models primarily focus on language skills development, neglecting the enhancement of cross-cultural communication abilities. As a result, students often show deficiencies in cultural understanding during actual cross-cultural exchanges, even leading to cultural conflicts or misunderstandings. In this context, overcoming the limitations of traditional teaching and innovating teaching models has become a crucial issue in the current English teaching reform. The rapid development of smart technologies, especially the widespread application of artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and virtual reality, offers new opportunities for the innovation of English education.
