Abstract

Grounded in the three-dimensional health framework, this study explores the holistic health benefits of community dance among Chinese residents using empirical data from Hunan and Hubei provinces. Using empirical data from participants in Hunan and Hubei provinces in China, the research reveals a demographic pattern predominantly composed of middle-aged and older women. Participants exhibit diverse health-related needs, with physical fitness as the primary motivation, supplemented by desires for social interaction and cultural engagement. Findings demonstrate that community dance significantly enhances physical functioning, particularly in slowing age-related physical decline. Moreover, it contributes to improved mental health through artistic expression and social interaction, while its social health benefits are especially notable among older adults. The results suggest that frequent and sustained participation generates cumulative health benefits. Cross-regional comparisons indicate that residents in economically less-developed areas experience more rapid and pronounced health improvements, underscoring the complementary role of community-based cultural and recreational activities in public health services. Based on these insights, the study advocates for the development of scientifically guided health intervention systems, gender-responsive dance formats, and the integration of community dance into chronic disease prevention strategies—providing practical approaches to health governance in aging societies.
