Abstract

As China's urbanization deepens, the cultural development of third- and fourth-tier cities, which are at critical junctures in regional development, has become increasingly important. As the primary vehicles for urban cultural dissemination, museums and art galleries have encountered numerous challenges in their development. In light of this, this paper first conducts a detailed analysis of the “inward-looking” status quo and underlying causes of museums and art galleries in third- and fourth-tier cities. It then proposes a “lightweight” development strategy for such institutions in these cities, followed by a thorough examination of the practical value of such a strategy, with the aim of providing guidance for relevant stakeholders.
