Visual art is often substituted for "Graphic arts," a substitution that fundamentally excludes the written word. However, the use of Characters in the creation of visual art has become a common phenomenon, and it is important to understand the development of text in visual art in a more open Eastern and Western art context, with specific analysis of artists' work.
