This paper explores the integration of excellent traditional Chinese culture, specifically Dragon Boat culture, into ideological and political education (IPE) at universities in Dongguan. It examines the practical models and effectiveness of incorporating cultural elements into IPE, aiming to enhance students’ ideological qualities, national identity, and social responsibility. By analyzing the role of Dragon Boat culture, the study demonstrates how this cultural integration helps students develop collectivist values, cultural confidence, and a deeper understanding of core socialist values. The research reveals that integrating Dragon Boat culture into education not only enriches the educational experience but also encourages students’ active participation through various practical activities, including cultural festivals, races, and community engagement. The study highlights the significance of combining traditional culture with modern educational frameworks, providing a valuable approach for fostering students’ cultural pride, teamwork, and moral development. Furthermore, the paper discusses the challenges and offers recommendations for further improving the integration of cultural education into IPE, including utilizing technology and fostering collaborations between universities and local communities.
